New Historicism in Urdu Literature: Discussions and Practical Example

Abstract

New Historicism’ is a literary theory, which deconstructs the History. History is not always complete and perfect, it has somewhere gaps and flaws, New Historicism fills that gaps by re-situating the situation. It unveils the real face of history, which is veiled by Political, Social or any other oppression. This theory (New Historicism) was founded in America in 1980’s. Later on after a decade, it was introduced in Urdu. But in fact, it could not evolved on a large scale in Urdu. There is no sufficient written work on New Historicism is available in Urdu. Only one book (New Historicism), consist on different articles/ essays on the subject is available, which is compiled by Dr. Naseem Abbas Ahmar. As well, few articles by different researchers and critiques are available in Urdu. While on the other hand, there is sufficient material available in English. In this article (New Historicism in Urdu Literature: Discussions and Practical Examples), besides discussing the basic concepts and aspects of New Historicism, some practical examples have also been presented to understand this theory. For this purpose, “New Historicism” compiled by Dr. Naseem Abbas Ahmar, has been kept in study and practical examples from this book have been discussed and re-evaluated. Efforts have been made to deliver and represent a fruitful discussion in this article.
